Many of us will be well aware of the extensive powers given to the members of the British police force. The principal purpose of these powers is to protect the interests of the public, and few would dispute that the police regularly exercise those powers properly and diligently. The powers of the police include: arrest, stop & search, stop & account, power of entry and power of seizure. However, what happens when the police abuse their powers? If you believe that the police have acted improperly and outside of their powers against you, then you may be able to seek redress through the civil courts. Your redress may include compensation, the recovery of your property and/or simply a declaration from a court to say that the police have not acted in accordance with their powers. - Matthew |
