Continuing the monthly look at a typically untypical day here at McHale & Co! Friday the 2nd December saw 6 conveyancing completions all neatly boxed off by Nicola Nolan and her team before 11am. We have feeling that it was the calm before the storm and that the number of transactions on each of the Fridays now before Christmas will see a lot more activity. The earliest start of the day was by Darren Bossons who had a 7am meeting with a Civil Engineering contractor client for whom we are preparing an adjudication. The Construction Industry likes early morning meetings so they are free for operational matters by 8am. The early bird catches the worm. Andrew McHale was at St Ambrose College Hale Barns for a photo shoot for the handing over of the new Rugby Kit we have been involved in sponsoring (see our latest news story). Andrew was also given a tour of the new school building. Paul Fitton was in discussions with Counsel regarding an appeal against a sentence for a client who had been imprisoned for driving with excess alcohol whilst disqualified for a similar offence. He also considered the expert video evidence in a high profile serious criminal case that we are dealing with. In the Employment department, Paul Harris-Stelfox successfully negotiated a £10,000 increase in the severance pay of a client who was facing disciplinary proceedings but was offered a compromise agreement. Matt Kelly, a solicitor in the Litigation team, settled two PPI cases and finalised further instructions to our QC who is acting on a matter where we are waiting for permission to appeal from the Supreme Court. Lindsay Britland, a partner in the Family department, was working on a number of contact matters in ongoing divorce proceedings. Getting Christmas contact sorted is always a tricky road to navigate and requires particular skills. Meanwhile it was a relatively quiet day in the Personal Injury department with annual leave taking its toll on numbers. Trainee Solicitor Andrew Walker was holding the fort and dealt with a number of routine case progression matters. Partner Michael Muldoon was working on an alliance with a potential referrer of work to our new sister firm that is about to launch in Dublin: McHale Muldoon. Watch this space! And finally in Heywood, Partner Jim Schofield was working on a number of Commercial leases and Partner Jim Waldron was working with new Trainee Philippa Wright on a number of Wills and Trust matters and carrying on our proud tradition of training our own solicitors!! |
