PIP Breast Implant Concerns? |

Still very much a topic of concern among thousands of women is the PIP breast implant scandal, which has swept the nation’s press in recent weeks.
The French company, Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) was ordered by the French Courts to close in April 2010, after health authorities ordered a recall of its products for using non-authorised silicone gel in its breast implants. Shockingly, PIP filled its implants with industrial grade, as opposed to medical grade silicone, originally manufactured for use in the mattress industry.
The NHS have maintained their position that these implants are no riskier than any others but have nevertheless agreed to remove any they have implanted. Moreover, French, German and Dutch health authorities have all recommended removal of the implants.
Last week, around 60 women marched on private cosmetic clinics in London in a bid to urge implant removal free of charge. The Harley Medical Group, who has installed a total of 13,900 PIP implants, blame the government’s regulatory body for approving them in the first place.
Health Minister, Lord Howe, told fellow peers last week, that “...private practitioners have in many instances a legal duty and certainly a moral duty to address these matters on behalf of their patients."
Despite what the private clinics say, they have a statutory duty under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982, to ensure that the products they supply are of a “satisfactory quality”.
If you are reading this and have concerns over your own PIP breast implants, please call in or telephone us to arrange a free and entirely confidential consultation. We can help you on a “No Win – No Fee Basis”. |
